The Wood Works offers placements to the long term unemployed who repair and refurbish furniture donated to us by the general public Trainees are offered on the job training by Stephen Budd, the Workshop Manager. The restored furniture is then sold in our shop.

 

What do trainees Learn?

Trainees can gain the following skills: Furniture restoration, use of hand and power tools, semi skilled manuel  work, materials handling, stock control, van driving skills, basic understanding of health and safety, team work, first aid, retail skills, customer service


 

What training is provided?

The project is managed by Stephen Budd an experienced furniture designer and there is the opportunity to take the City and Guilds 6135 Basic Woodworking Course level 1 which will progress onto the Construction Award in Carpentry and Joinery level 2. Upholstery and a hand painted furniture course.

   

Who can apply
